Miss Trinidad & Tobago Universe is a beauty pageant for single women in Trinidad & Tobago where the winner represents Trinidad & Tobago in Miss Universe.

History

Miss Trinidad and Tobago Universe beauty pageant has been selected privately by the region director for Miss Universe in the Caribbean since 1963-1980. After, a local beauty pageant was held for the selection of delegate for the international Competition. This pageant was branded Miss Universe Trinidad and Tobago. It has been held annually since.

The women usually range from ages 18 to 27, and are selected from a pageant held in Trinidad and Tobago currently.

The country's representative in 1977, Janelle Commissiong became the first person of African ethnicity to win the Miss Universe contest which was hosted in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. In May, 1999, the Miss Universe pageant was hosted at the Chaguaramas Convention Centre in Chaguaramas, Trinidad & Tobago. A record eighty-four nations were represented and winner that year was Mpule Kwelagobe of Botswana. It was also the first time two women of African descent won on consecutive occasions, with the prior year winner being Wendy Fitzwilliam of Trinidad and Tobago. Trinidad & Tobago did not send a delegate to Miss Universe in 1965, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1972, 1992, 2007 and 2009.
