Ministry of Employment and the Economy

Ministry of Employment and the Economy (Finnish: elinkeinoministeriö) is a ministry of the government of Finland. The ministry implements industrial, labor and local development policy. The current Minister of Economic Affairs is Jan Vapaavuori.

The ministry was merged from Ministry of Labour (työministeriö), Ministry of Trade and Industry (kauppa- ja teollisuusministeriö) and parts of Ministry of Interior (sisäministeriö) relating to local administration in 2008. The first minister was Mauri Pekkarinen. The combination was termed superministeriö as this created a large and diverse organization. The intention of the merger was to make sure that labor policy and industrial policy are coordinated and don't go separate ways, along with other policies such as immigration or regional policy.
