Mingora (also spelled Mingawara or Mangora or Mingaora) (Pashto: مینګورہ) is the largest commercial city in Swat District, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. It is located at an altitude of 984 metres (3,228 ft) above the sea level and about at a distance of 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) away from Saidu Sharif, the present administrative capital of Swat. The city is a major tourist destination with large number of grand hotels, where visitors could stay for night at suitable price.
History
Many Buddhist remains and carvings have been discovered near Mingora in the Jambil River Valley. At Panr, a stupa and monastery dated to the 1st century CE has been excavated. At Loe Banr and Matalai, Italian archaeologists unearthed 475 Aryan graves dated circa 1700 BCE. On the opposite side of River Swat at Aligrama, near the Saidu Sharif airport, a site of Gandhara grave culture was discovered by Italian archaeologists which has been dated to circa 10,000 BCE.
