Mingjian Township (Chinese: 名間鄉; pinyin: Míngjiān Xiāng; Wade–Giles: Ming2-chien1 Xiang1; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Bêng-kan Hiong) is a rural township in west central of Nantou County, Taiwan.

Naming

Its name originates from a Japanese transliteration of the Taiwanese word, Lama (Chinese: 湳仔; pinyin: nǎnzǎi; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Lâm-á), meaning a very wet place.[1]

History

Mingjian was a hunting ground for the Taiwanese aborigines.[1]

In 2008, the 100th congregation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Taiwan was organized in Mingjian.[2]

In Mingjian there is a leaning unused pylon, which was damaged in an earthquake
