Mingbulak oil spill

The Mingbulak oil spill or Fergana Valley oil spill was a massive terrestrial oil spill that started on March 2, 1992 at the Mingbulak oil field in the Fergana Valley, Uzbekistan when a blowout occurred at well #5. It was the worst oil spill in the history of Asia. The oil coming out of the well caught fire and burnt for two months. The blowout resulted in the release of 35,000 barrels (5,600 m³) to 150,000 barrels (24,000 m³) per day. In total, 2,000,000 barrels (320,000 m³) were collected behind emergency dykes. The oil stopped flowing by itself.
