Biography

Mikey Wax is a singer/songwriter from Long Island, New York, who started playing piano at the age of 8. Upon graduating from high school, Mikey attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.

His debut album "Change Again" was released in November 2008 and ranked on the iTunes top 100 pop albums in the US, UK, Canada and Australia. The album includes the song "In Case I Go Again" which was selected as the winner of The Unsigned Artist radio contest held by WRMF / 97.9 FM, a popular radio station in South Florida.[1] The single was featured on the CBS hit series Ghost Whisperer.[2] In July 2010, the music video for "In Case I Go Again" was featured on the homepage of YouTube as part of their "Music Tuesday" spotlight receiving 500,000 views. "In Case I Go Again" was featured on NBC during the 2012 Summer Olympics, as well as featured on ABC Family's Pretty Little Liars on July 30, 2013.

Wax has toured in the U.S. supporting Parachute, Andy Grammer, Jon McLaughlin, Matt Wertz, Howie Day, Tyler Ward, Ryan Cabrera, Tyler Hilton and Tony Lucca among others. Mikey has been known to play the piano and guitar simultaneously. Wax also got his start performing in his fans living rooms across the country. He has played over 200 house concerts.

In 2011, Mikey recorded his second full-length album with producer Warren Huart (The Fray, James Blunt). The album titled "Constant Motion" released independently in September 2011, ranking at #6 on the iTunes singer/songwriter chart, and #47 on Billboard Heatseekers chart. The single "Counting on You" began receiving radio airplay on major adult top 40 (Hot-AC) stations, and debuted on the Mediabase adult top 40 radio chart on April 9, 2012. Soon after, Mikey was selected by New Music Seminar as an "Artist on the Verge" and also featured by iHeartRadio as an "Artist To Watch". In the summer of 2012, "Counting on You" was featured as the elimination montage song on all episodes of FOX's So You Think You Can Dance. "Counting on You" was later placed in the movie trailer for the major motion picture Playing For Keeps, starring Gerard Butler and Jessica Biel. This got him a placement in USA Today[3] and on Young Hollywood.[4] "Counting on You" was selected as a finalist in the International Songwriting Competition (ISC), and as a finalist in the second annual Guitar Center unsigned singer/songwriter contest. "Counting on You" was also awarded 2nd place out of 9,000 artist submissions in the Unsigned Only competition.

Mikey's original holiday song "And A Happy New Year" receives radio airplay annually on SiriusXM Holly throughout the holiday season, and was featured on ABC Family's Switched At Birth in December, 2014. Shockya.com says Wax "makes holiday music "the cool thing to listen to"."[5]

In late 2013, Mikey's song "For Better Or Worse" was featured on the Lifetime (TV network) hit show Dance Moms, and his song "So Crazy" premiered in a promo commercial for Brazilian TV network GNT,[6] which led to the song charting on the Top 100 iTunes Pop Chart Brazil, and Mikey signing a sub-publishing deal with Warner/Chappell Music South America. The commercial aired through the third quarter of 2013.

Wax then recorded his 3rd full-length album with Nashville producer/brother duo Ed Cash and Scott Cash. "You Lift Me Up", the first single off the record, released digitally on Toucan Cove Records in March 2014, debuting on the iTunes US Top 200 Pop Chart. iTunes featured the song as "Ahead of the Curve". The dance remix of the song, produced by EDM duo Live City, premiered on BPM (Sirius XM). The remix has also attained over five million streams on Spotify. The song has since been placed on MTVs The Real World, and The Challenge: Battle of the Exes II. "You Lift Me Up" is also currently featured in the season 10 promo commercial of Keeping Up With The Kardashians on E! Entertainment. The full album, self-titled "Mikey Wax", released on June 10, 2014. He was a featured artist on mobile music app smule, and was named by American Airlines as their Artist Of The Month, reaching 15 million listeners combined. He also landed a spot in the Huffington Post.[7] "Drive On", a digital bonus track on the album, was written and recorded for the film The Road Within, starring Dev Patel and Zoe Kravitz, releasing in April, 2015. On January 26, 2015, RantLifestyle Magazine listed Mikey as 1 of "15 Musicians You’ve Never Heard Of Who Deserve A Grammy", saying that Wax is a "piano prodigy" who writes "inspirational and lyrical" music and has "even managed to turn into a social media phenomenon."[8]

Super Bowl MVP / Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has publicly tweeted his support of Mikey's music, mentioning him as an artist on his game day playlist. He requested to hear "You Lift Me Up" on The Pulse (Sirius XM), and it was retweeted by many fans, gaining the attention of the station who premiered the song on August 11, 2014 during XM New Music Week.
