Mike Nearman is an American politician. He was elected to the Oregon House of Representatives in 2014 after ousting incumbent Representative Jim Thompson in the Republican primary election. The Oregonian reported that Nearman was buoyed by conservative opposition to Thompson's moderate stances on social issues like same-sex marriage and abortion rights.[1]

Although Nearman won election easily over Democrat Wanda Davis, his campaign ran into legal and ethical issues, with the Oregon Department of Justice launching a criminal investigation into allegations of campaign finance misreporting and Republican Senator Brian Boquist lodging a complaint with the Oregon Government Ethics Commission over purported coordination between the Nearman campaign and Oregon Right to Life.[2] Nearman ultimately settled with the ethics commission over Boquist's complaint, receiving a "letter of education" rather than a fine.[3]
