Miguel Ángel Vázquez Bautista (born January 6, 1987, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico) is a Mexican professional boxer and a former IBF Lightweight Champion.[1] He is managed by fellow boxer, Antonio Margarito.[2]

Professional career

Two of Vázquez's four losses have come to Saul Alvarez, who he went the distance with Vázquez on two different occasions in Welterweight bouts.[3][4] His other loss was to Timothy Bradley when he was 20 years old at Light Welterweight, Bradley would go on to say "I knew the fight was going to be tough, he's Mexican, I give him a lot of credit he's a good fighter."[5]

On July 17, 2009 Vázquez became Infamous to boxing fans when he won a 10 round split decision over the undefeated and much heralded Breidis Prescott.[6][7] Prescott was the first fighter to beat England's Amir Khan.[8]

Lightweight

On August 14, 2010, Vázquez fought Ji-Hoon Kim for the vacant IBF Lightweight Title.[9] Vázquez beat Kim by Unanimous Decision to win his first championship.[10] His successful first title defense was against Ricardo Dominguez in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico.[11]

Vázquez vs. Zappavigna

His successful second title defense was against Leonardo Zappavigna in Las Vegas, Nevada, handing the Australian his first defeat via a wide-margin, 12-round unanimous decision. Zappavigna landed a solid overhand right to the champion early, but Vazquez opened a cut over the challenger's left eye as well, from then the fighters becoming aggressive from the start.

Vázquez vs. Bey

Miguel Vázquez vs. Mickey Bey was on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather vs. Marcos Maidana II on Saturday 13 of September 2014. This fight was for the International Boxing Federation lightweight title. On fight night, Vázquez lost his lightweight title by split decision, and also lost for the first time since 2008. The score totals of the fight were 113-115, 109-119, and 115-113. Many ringside observers felt Vazquez had won the fight and was robbed by the judges.
