Miguel Street is a semi-autobiographical novel by V. S. Naipaul set in wartime Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. Naipaul wrote it while employed at the BBC using a BBC typewriter and "rustle-free paper."[1]
Miguel Street won the 1961 Somerset Maugham Award.
Plot Summary
The fourth fiction work by Naipaul, the book consists of several stories, each one dealing with a colorful depiction of a single character living on the Miguel Street in Port of Spain, Trinidad.
The main characters include Bogart (named after Humphrey Bogart), Hat, Popo, George, Elias, an assiduous boy, Man-man, Eddoes, a junk king, Mrs. Hereira, Uncle Bhakcu, Bolo, and Edward.
