The Microtel Inns & Suites brand is a chain of franchise hotels with locations in Argentina, Canada, Mexico, the Philippines, and the United States.

About

All Microtel Inn & Suites hotels are new-construction, as opposed to conversions from existing hotels that were previously flagged as other brands. Microtel was the first economy hotel chain to offer free local and long distance calls and wireless high-speed Internet access as standard services. Hotels are typically two to four story buildings with interior corridors. Unique room features include a wall length mirror over the beds (as opposed to the more standard painting), wall-mounted lighting (as opposed to lamps), and a window seat that can be used as a small bed. Microtel has been ranked highest in guest satisfaction for guest service among economy hotels by JD Power and Associates for ten consecutive years as of 2011.[2]

Some properties offer restaurants, meeting and fitness facilities, swimming pool and guest laundry. Select properties allow pets and offer print, copy and fax services.

Each hotel is independently owned and operated.

History

The first location opened in 1989 in suburban Rochester, NY. There are now over three hundred franchises around the world.

In 2006, Microtel was sued by the family of Jennifer Herring, a thirty-year-old front desk clerk murdered while on duty at a Microtel in Scott, Louisiana.[3]

On July 21, 2008, Wyndham Hotel Group purchased US Franchise Systems, Inc., owner of the Microtel Inns & Suites and Hawthorn Suites brands, from Global Hyatt. US Franchise Systems had previously sold the America's Best Inn (formerly Best Inns) chain to the Country Hearth Inns chain in 2005. That holding company is now known as America's Best Franchising Inc.[4]

As of 2012, Microtel's logo has changed to match the logo style of Wingate, and Hawthorn Suites, both owned by Wyndham Hotel Group.
