Arjan Michiel Sander Veenstra (Almelo, 6 March 1976) is a radio-dj for the NTR on 3FM.[1] He presents the program MetMichiel every Monday to Friday between 10.00 and 12.00 [2]

Biography

Veenstra made his first radioshow in 1992 on pirate radio. Two years later he got his own show at Regio FM, the local radio station of the Wierden conglomerate. Here, he presented the Saturday night show 'Lucky Night'. Furthermore, he presented a daily morningshow on this station: Wierden wordt wakker (Wierden wakes up).

Through other local stations, he ended up with Radio 538 in 1997, where he first became a producer for Rick van Velthuysen. Later on, Veenstra also worked as a producer for Erik de Zwart, Wessel van Diepen en Jeroen Nieuwenhuize. Besides his role in the morning show The Morning J.E.M., Veenstra gets his own nightprogram after a while (sometimes with Erik-Jan Rosendahl) and he is the 538-website webmaster.

In 2000, Veenstra leaves 538 Radio to start his own internet company, called Angry Bytes. He also starts making radio for Kink FM with the shows Sunday Bloody Sunday and Outlaw Classix. When parent company Veronica restarts Radio Veronica in 2002, Veenstra decides to transfer to this new station. For over a year, he's the only DJ on air, which is transmitted on small scale through cable only.

During the summer of 2003, chances take a turn for Radio Veronica as it is merged with Sky Radio. The station gets a 1980s en 1990s-format and goes on air. At the new Radio Veronica, Veenstra presents the show Veenstra uit de veren (Veenstra gets up) every morning between 04.00 and 06.00 and he's also the sidekick together with Alexander Stevens, from 06.00 until 09.00 for the Curry & the Crew show with Adam Curry. In this show, Veenstra presents a week-long radio show from army base Camp Smitty in Iraq and from a Las Vegas night club, among other things. When Adam Curry leaves in September 2004, Veenstra starts working with successor Jeroen van Inkel. Veenstra also presents a new friday night show, the Veenstravaganza! show. He receives a young talent award from the Marconi Award jury, an important radio prize.

In 2005 Veenstra transfers again, this time to join 3FM, where he makes the eveningshow MetMichiel for the NTR. Starting September 2006 he can also be heard on fridaynight, together with Gerard Ekdom in the Ekstra Weekend show. Michiel is also the regular substitute for Giel Beelen, for the morning show GIEL as well as the Friday night show Nachtegiel. Also, Veenstra could be heard substituting Rob Stenders in his show Stenders Eetvermaak, which they would rename Veenstra's Vreetvermaak (Roughly translated: Veenstra's Munch Madness). On Friday 27 April 2007 Michiel Veenstra writes radio history by being the first ever radio maker to host a live radio show from the North Pole. This was for the Noordpool FM project.

Veenstra once featured in a carshow on Dutch television with his car 'Henk'. Henk has been replaced by Ferry, but Veenstra still reminisces sometimes with the catch phrase Henk if you're horny. He also did some voice-over work for the show, which was called De Grote Beurt. Michiel Veenstra's voice can also be heard in multiple NPS TV programs.
