Michelle Gavagan is an environmentalist and beauty queen from the Philippines who won Miss Philippines Fire 2011 and Miss Southville International School and Colleges 2010.
Biography
Gavagan was born in Mabalacat, Pampanga, Philippines on February 17, 1990. Her father is an Irish American who died when she was 9 years old. She has lived with her mother, who is a Filipina, and her younger brother in various countries, i.e., Saudi Arabia for 6 years, United States (Florida) for a year, then her family moved to the Philippines where she has been staying since 2001. She speaks English, Filipino, and Visayan (Waray). She is a student and taking up Bachelor of Science in Communication at the Southville International School and Colleges in Las Piñas City, Metro Manila, Philippines. She competed and won Miss Southville International School and Colleges 2010.[2]
Miss Philippines Earth 2011
Gavagan represented the City of Las Piñas at Miss Philippines Earth 2011 and won Miss Philippines Fire 2011 which was held at the Puerto Prinsesa Coliseum in Palawan, Philippines[3] on June 5, 2011.[4][5][6] She also won the "Miss Golden Sunset Resort and Spa" in subsidiary contests.[7]
In June 2011, Gavagan and her fellow winners of Miss Philippines Earth 2011 made a courtesy visit with the President of the Philippines Benigno Aquino III at the Malacañan Palace to show their support for the government’s intensified campaign to promote Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park.[8]
In February 2012, she joined the Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation tree-planting activity along the River Park district of Marikina City as part of an outreach program and also hosted a lively learning session for grade school students of the Industrial Valley Elementary School and taught about the importance of saving money and also shared stories and tips on how to care for the environment.[9]
