Michael Turnbull (born 24 March 1981 in Brisbane, Australia) is a former Australian National Team goalkeeper, currently playing for Melbourne Victory in the A-League.

Career

Considered to be one of the best goalkeepers Australia has ever produced with over 400 professional games in his career. He played with Sydney's Marconi Stallions from 1999–2002 and also winning goalkeeper of the year in the National Soccer League and representing Australia at the Sydney 2000 Olympic games before signing with AS Roma in the Serie A in 2003 for a reported $2,100,000.00. He then moved to Belgium's Standard Liège where he played in the EUFA Cup against Parma FC, Besiktas, Athletico Madrid and Bochum FC. After Belgium he signed with Bristol City FC for 3 years in England but had to return to Australia due to work visa issues .[1] Michael returned to Australia to play in the A-League for the New Zealand Knights where he was injured. He is now currently playing for the Brisbane Strikers in the NPL and in the FFA Cup.

On 24 April 2015, Melbourne Victory announced that they had signed Michael Turnbull leading into the A-League finals series.[2]Melbourne won the premiership in their final match of the season.

International career

Turnbull has represented Australia at every level as has 36 caps for his country at all levels. He played on the national Socceroo's team and at the Sydney and Athens Olympic Games. He is the youngest ever goalkeeper to represent Australia in an Olympic Games. He has played in 2 World Youth Cups for Australia in Argentina and in Nigeria and 2 Olympic Games. (Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004). Michael has also played for the Socceroos.
