Michael Robert Lane, PhD, (born May 1, 1952) is an American education administrator, currently serving as the dean of Missouri Western State University's Steven L. Craig School of Business in Saint Joseph, Missouri.[1] Before becoming the dean at Missouri Western, Lane was the president of Emporia State University and an accounting professor from 2006 to 2011, and provost/vice president at several institutions.

Biography

Education

Lane received his bachelor's of science in finance from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, his master's of science in accounting from Northeastern University and his doctor of philosophy degree from Texas A&M University.[2]

Early career

Lane’s career in higher education began in Boston as an assistant professor of accounting at Northeastern University.[3] As a professor at Bradley University, he served as the Chair of the Department of Accounting, and the Associate Dean of the College of Business and Director of the MBA Program. In 1994 he was named dean of the School of Business at Indiana University – Purdue University Fort Wayne. After serving as the dean at IUPUFW, Lane then served as dean of the Campbell School of Business at Berry College in Rome, Georgia. After Berry College, Lane moved to Pennsylvania to become the provost and vice president for academic affairs Mansfield University for four years. Then from 2005 to 2006, Lane served as the vice chancellor for academic affairs and provost at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith.[4]

Emporia State University

On November 1, 2006 Lane took over as the fifteenth president of Emporia State University, located in Emporia, Kansas.[4] Lane succeeded Kay Schallenkamp who left for Black Hills State University. During his time at Emporia State, Lane oversaw the largest renovation project, on campus, of the Memorial Union.[5] On June 30, 2011, Lane stepped down to return to teaching accounting at Emporia State.[6]
