Michael Matus (actor)

Michael Matus is a British actor.

Born in Borneo, Michael Matus grew up in Hong Kong, San Francisco, Sussex and Kent, where he went to school as a choral scholar at The King's School in Canterbury. He then studied History at the University of Bristol before training as an actor at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA).

Michael has worked extensively in London's West-End where productions include the original production of Martin Guerre directed by Declan Donnellan, and in June 2011 he starred in the transfer of a new production of Lend Me a Tenor-The Musical.^[1] He has also worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company, Shakespeare's Globe, the Royal Court Theatre, Chichester Festival Theatre, Shared Experience, Headlong and the Citizens Theatre, Glasgow, West Yorkshire Playhouse on 'Tis Pity She's a Whore, Taboo in Brixton, The Sound of Music at Regent's Park and The A to Z of Mrs P at the Southwark Playhouse. In his early years he played smaller roles in two movies: The Muppet Christmas Carol and The Crying Game. He has been on TV often, notably in Eastenders, Endeavour, The Bill, A Prince Among Men, and The Dom Joly Show.

Michael has been nominated for a Helen Hayes Award,^[2] a TMA award, a What's-On-Stage award ^[3] and in 2003 he was a joint winner of the Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement for the RSC's Jacobean season ^[4]

Michael lives in London. He is a keen cricket player and in 1991 founded the team, 'International Rescue CC'.
