Michael Lichaa (born 18 July 1993) is an Australian professional rugby league footballer for the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs of the National Rugby League. He primarily plays hooker.

Background

Born in Wollongong, New South Wales, Lichaa played his junior football for Cronulla-Caringbah and the Yarrawarrah Tigers before being signed by the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks. From 2011 to 2013, Lichaa played for the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks' NYC team[1] before moving on to the Sharks' New South Wales Cup team in 2014. In 2011, Lichaa played for the New South Wales Under 18s team. In 2012 and 2013, Lichaa played for the New South Wales Under 20s team.[2] At the end of 2012, Lichaa was named at hooker in the 2012 NYC Team of the Year.[3] In 2012 and 2013, Lichaa played for the Junior Kangaroos.[4][5] At the end of 2013, Lichaa was again named at hooker in the 2013 NYC Team of the Year.[6]

Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks 2014

In February 2014, Lichaa was included in the Sharks inaugural 2014 Auckland Nines squad.[7] In Round 2 of the 2014 NRL season, Lichaa made his NRL debut for the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs off the interchange bench in the Sharks 42-4 loss at ANZ Stadium.[8][9] On 19 March 2014, Lichaa signed a three year contract with the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs worth about $300,000 a season, starting in 2015. 2 days after announcing the signing, Lichaa was dumped by coach by Peter Sharp for “lack of loyalty”.[10] Lichaa was welcomed back to the Sharks first squad in Round 7 against the Sydney Roosters, playing off the interchange bench in the Sharks 24-18 loss at Remondis Stadium.[11] In May 2014, After playing 3 first grade matches for the Sharks, Lichaa was selected to play for City Origin for the City vs Country Origin match at Apex Oval in Dubbo, playing off the interchange bench in the 26-26 draw.[12][13] Lichaa finished off his debut year in the NRL for the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks with him playing in 15 matches in the 2014 NRL season.
