Michael Dougherty is an American screenwriter and director, known for his work with Dan Harris on the scripts for Bryan Singer's films X2 and Superman Returns. He's also known for writing and directing the cult horror film Trick 'r Treat.[1] On October 28, 2013 at a special screening, it was announced to the surprise of the audience that a sequel will be produced by Legendary Pictures.[2]

Early life

Dougherty attended the Tisch School of Arts at New York University in the Maurice Kanbar Institute of Film and Television, which is where he produced Season's Greetings (1996).[3]

Career

His directorial debut, Trick 'r Treat, is based on his own script, and was produced by Bryan Singer.[4] It played at several film festivals, before being released on DVD on October 6, 2009 in the US and Canada.[5] In December 2014 began with working on his upcoming Horror film Krampus, which is set for a release in December 2015.[6] and will co-write with Singer, Dan Harris (cowriter for Superman Returns) and Simon Kinberg (X-Men: The Last Stand, First Class and Days of Future Past) the script for the next X-Men film entitled Apocalypse with Singer once again as director, which is set a 2016 release.[7]

His mother is Vietnamese. Dougherty is an artist and some of his artwork is displayed on his official website.

Director Bryan Singer and Superman Returns screenwriters Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris provided the plots to four comic book prequels to Superman Returns. The four forty-page comic book prequels were published by DC Comics throughout the month of June 2006 and bridged the gap between the second Superman film and Superman Returns.
