Mesa Court
Mesa Court is a residential housing complex at the University of California, Irvine. There are 29 residence halls all with Spanish themed names.[1]
There are 21 halls that have a special interest theme such as Campus wide Honors, Music, Mass Media and Communication, Wellness, Emerging Leaders, Community Service & Social Justice, Campus Connection, Performance Arts, Diversity, First Year Excellence Program, Engineering & Technology, and Visual Arts. The Mesa Court housing complex consists of a Recreation Center, Community Center, and Housing Office. There are basketball courts, beach volleyball courts, and fields for other activities. There is a small population of squirrels, rabbits, raccoons, and possums.
Mesa Court was one of the first two on-campus residence complexes that opened with the campus in 1965, the other being Verano Place. The initial buildings were designed primarily by A. Quincy Jones. The halls are named after Spanish names:
Mesa Court is located away from the main campus circle, unlike Middle Earth, the other undergraduate housing complex at UCI. However, the Claire Trevor School of the Arts is located right next to Mesa Court. In addition, the Bren Events Center, University Town Center, and the UCI Student Center are just a short walk away. Mesa Court is home to over 1,800 undergraduate students and has become the largest housing complex on campus. The dorms were built in consecutive phases, the last of which was completed in the early 2000s (decade). The newer phases have larger rooms but are located farther from the main campus. Most newer phase dorms have three floors, and the older ones have two.
Each hall has a common room, kitchen, and study room. Along with that, each suite floor has a small study/lounge area.
