Melbourne Summer Cycle

The Melbourne Summer Cycle is a non competitive ride held in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Money raised helps finance the efforts of MS Australia (Multiple Sclerosis).

The 2011 event is 40 km and circles the Melbourne city centre and crosses the West Gate Bridge.[1] Starting and finishing at Princes Park, Carlton. The Melbourne Summer Cycle aims to be a sustainable event, aiming to reduce the carbon and ecological footprint of the event. Over three thousand riders participated in 2007.

In 2010, changes were made to the cycle route to avoid congestion and there was an increase in the police and traffic management staff along the course.

Cyclists can enter as a team or an individual. For a recreational rider, the 40 km course takes approximately 3.5 hours, not including rest breaks. There are three official rest stops on the way.

In 2011, the ride aims to raise $750,000 for people with MS.
