Mayor's Mouse (Mus mayori) or Sri Lanka Bi-colored Spiny mouse, is a species of rodent in the family Muridae. It is found only in Sri Lanka where it is known as ශ්රී ලංකා දෙපැහැ කටු හීන් මීයා in sinhala.[2] It is placed in the genus Coelomys by some authors.
Description
Head and body length is 8-11cm. Tail is 9-10cm in length. Speckled chocolate brown above, the speckled affect owing to black-tipped gray spines that are intermixed with soft fur. Underparts are creamy white with chest much lightr or white in ssp. pococki and gray in ssp. mayori. Ears with dark edge but pinkish otherwise. Snout pinkish. Tail slender, scaly, and bi-colored (chocolate brown above, creamy white below). Large dark gray feet have tiny claws.
