Maynard Pirsig
Maynard Pirsig (1902–1997) was an American legal scholar and academic. Educated at the University of Minnesota and the University of Minnesota Law School,[1] he was Professor and Dean of Law at Minnesota from 1948 to 1955. He was later Professor of Law at the William Mitchell College of Law.[2] He had one of the longest careers of any legal academic.[3]
Personal life
Pirsig was born in Kossuth County, Iowa in 1902, was raised on his parents' farm and spoke only German until he began attending school.[4]
He is the father of Robert M. Pirsig.[5]
Deanship at Minnesota
Pirsig improved the reputation of the University of Minnesota Law School by hiring a number of notable scholars, including Charles Alan Wright, Michael I. Sovern, and Jesse Dukeminier.
Minnesota Supreme Court
Pirsig served briefly as a Justice on the Minnesota Supreme Court. He was appointed by Governor Harold Stassen.[1]
