Maylee Todd is a Canadian independent musician based in Toronto, Ontario. She released her first solo album, Choose Your Own Adventure, on the Do Right Music label in June, 2010.[1] Todd’s band, Pegwee Power, includes Andrew Scott (trumpet and synth), Eric Woolston (vibraphone and drums) and Chris Kettlewell (bass and accordion).[2] Prior to launching her solo project, Todd was a member of Henri Fabergé and the Adorables, Woodhands and The Bicycles.[3]
Todd’s music covers a wide variety of genres including pop, indie-rock, soul, jazz and bossa nova.[1] She has a taste for exotic instruments such as the Paraguayan harp,[4] and is further distinguished as a stage performer by her flair for comedy and the dramatic arts. She has been known to appear on stage with a full jazz band dressed in stuffed animal costumes, and her video "Aerobics in Space" further demonstrates the diversity and fearlessness of her creative palette.[5] The single "Aerobics in Space" was featured on the limited edition Do Right Serato pressing, released in May 2011, along with a remix of the song by Christian Prommer and Alex Barck of Jazzanova.
Born to a Caucasian father and a Filipina mother, Todd spent her formative years around influences ranging from Elvis Presley to Gilberto Gil.[6] She was the special musical guest of acclaimed Toronto sketch comedy troupe The Sketchersons on November 11, 2008.
Todd has shared the stage with numerous well-known Canadian and international artists, including: Janelle Monáe, Esthero, Aloe Blacc, and The Budos Band.[7] In July 2011 she performed at the Canadian Blast showcase at the Barbican in London, England.[4] She contributes vocals on Bob Wiseman's 2012 release Giulietta Masina at the Oscars Crying.
On April 2, 2013, Todd released her second studio album Escapology, featuring the singles "Hieroglyphics", "Baby's Got It" and "I Can't Stand It".
