Dr. Mayilvahanan Natarajan (born December 24, 1954) is a noted Indian surgeon who has made substantial contributions to the specialty of Orthopedic Oncology, medical training, hospital administration, medical ethics and invention of Custom Mega Prostheses to avoid amputaiton for Bone tumor patients.[1] For his efforts. he was awarded the Padma Shri by the government of India in 2007.
Mayil Vahanan Natarajan was the 7th Vice Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University.[2] He was the first Indian to be elected as the millenium president 2000 - 2002 to the The Asia Pacific Musculoskeletal Tumour Society.
Biography
Mayilvahanan Natarajan was born as the third child to Dr. Natarajan and Janaki on 24 December 1954. He joined Madras Medical College for his MBBS course in 1971.
Honors
- British Orthopedic Association's Wishbone Trust Award for excellence in limb salvage surgery.
- Dr. B C Roy National Award by the Medical Council of India in 2004
- Padmashri Award by President of India in recognition of distinguished service in the field of Surgery in 2007.
