A lifelong resident of Chicago in 1971, Maxine is the second of three daughters born to Jeremiah and Josephine Joseph. In high school, she secretly dated school football player Kenny Chadway (Jeffrey D. Sams, Rockmond Dunbar), the boyfriend of her older sister Teri (Vanessa L. Williams, Nicole Ari Parker).
