Mawson Lakes Soccer Club (MLSC) is an South Australian Amateur football club based in the suburb of Mawson Lakes, South Australia. This not-for-profit club was founded in 2013 and played its inaugural season in the 2014 SAASL Men's Division Four competition.
About Us
The Club aims include; commitment to skill development, encouraging good sportsmanship and positive team play, constant improvement in physical fitness and achieving pure enjoyment of the world’s number one sport. The clubs players come from all walks of life and cultural backgrounds, but share the same goal: To compete together as a team and to represent the Mawson Lakes community on a metropolitan-wide stage.
In the 2014 season, MLSC had almost 40 players in two teams, a management team of 2, and 2 non-playing financial members. These numbers are predicted to increase, with future ambitions including the addition of women’s and juniors teams.
History
During the year 2013 locals would gather for a friendly social kick-about in the park. These frequent kick-abouts eventually led to the vision and creation of the Mawson Lakes Soccer Club. The club was formed following the first committee meeting in July, 2013 at the Mawson Centre. Members present at the meeting included M. Bunce, L. Branigan, O. Elekwachi, S. Murray, C. Wareham and R. Berecry. It became the first soccer club to truly represent the growing community of Mawson Lakes and its residents. In 2014, the Pelicans were formally accepted into the SAASL competition in Division 4. The Pelican's first ever win came in a pre-season friendly against SAPOL winning 2-1 on February 23, 2014.
The club's inaugural season in 2014 was a season of highs and lows, as well as trials and consolidations. Both the A's and B's teams were dealt a handful of heavy losses throughout the season. It wasn't until the latter half of the season that the teams started to work as a unit and produce more respectable results on the field, with the highlight being the A's team coming away with 12 out of a possible 15 points in their final 5 matches of the season, and in doing so, achieving more than half of the teams premiership points in the process. On the 15th of October 2014, the Mawson Lakes Soccer Club announced that current manager Marian Chmielewski would part ways with the club with Liam Branigan replacing him as the club's first team coach.[1]
Crest and Colours
The club's new look crest features a pelican with a look of determination at the top of the crest, signifying the club's intent on creating its footprint in Adelaide as one of the up and coming forces to be reckoned with. The colours of the crest remain unchanged to maintain strong links with the club's first ever crest.
In Mawson Lakes' debut season in 2014, the club's crest featured a pelican next to a grove of palm trees on the bottom quadrants of a light blue, dark blue, white and yellow shield. Both are iconic elements of the Mawson Lakes area; pelican's frequenting the many lakes and palm trees lining the CBD and the top of the shield was accented with a football to signify its status as a community football club. In late 2014, it was decided amongst the club's members and committee that the crest should get a revamp, regardless of the clubs age and stature. The logo design was decided upon the same date as the election of the 2015 committee,[2] giving a feel for a fresh start with a new logo, new committee and possible new home ground.
The club's colours throughout history have been consistent keeping a light blue and dark blue design. The Home Strip sports a light blue jersey with black shorts and socks. The Away Strip contrasts with a yellow jersey also with black shorts and socks.
Home Ground
For the club's inaugural season in 2014, their home ground was based out of North Ingle Primary School, whilst plans to expand in 2015 to the new sporting complex of the University of South Australia, Mawson Lakes Campus grounds.
On 26 October 2014, it was announced that MLSC would be playing all of their home matches out of the newly developed sporting complex for the next 5 years following an agreement with the University of South Australia.[3][4]
