2004 Egyptian National Foil Coach

Mauro Hamza is originally from Cairo, Egypt, and established [Salle Mauro] in August, 1999 in Houston. He also served as Fencing Program Coordinator at Rice University from 1998 to 2014 and spent three years serving the Southwest fencing community as volunteer Chairman of the Gulf Coast Division. Mauro was the Egyptian Olympic coach for the men’s and women’s foil teams at the Athens Olympics in 2004 and was the United States Fencing Association Men’s Foil National Coach 2009-2010; then USA Foil Director for Men’s and Women’s National teams in 2010-2011. In 2009, December 26 was declared “Mauro Hamza Day” by Houston mayor Bill White in recognition of his development of the sport of fencing in Houston. [1] Mauro is married to Noura Younis, who was an Egyptian National Champion in women’s foil.

Mauro was the Egyptian national coach for men's foil for the 2004 Olympics in Athens. He resides in Houston, Texas, and owns the Salle Mauro Fencing Academy in Houston, which was part of the USFA's Gulf Coast division. Hamza is the fencing instructor at Rice University[2] where he is trying to start an NCAA Fencing program. He is from Egypt and is married to Noura Younis, who was an Egyptian National Champion women's fencer. Together they have two children.

Mauro has coached many top US fencers including Ben Parkins, Michael Dudey, Steve Gerberman, Thomas Dudey, Sarah Followil, Cathy McDormentt, Lizzie McDormentt, and Michael Galligan.
