Matthew Joe Pearson (born 3 August 1993) is an English footballer who currently plays as a midfielder for Conference Premier club FC Halifax Town.
Career
Born in Keighley, Pearson joined Blackburn Rovers at the age of 10, progressing through the academy to sign his first professional contract in the summer of 2011.[2] In January 2012, he joined Football Conference side Lincoln City on a youth loan.[3] Pearson made his debut for the Imps on 14 January, in a 2–1 win over Carshalton Athletic in the FA Trophy. However, his loan was cut short two months early as he was recalled by his parent club.[4] On 1 August 2012, he joined Football League Two side Rochdale on a one-year deal after his release by Blackburn.[5] His professional debut came on 11 August 2012, in a 4–3 defeat to Barnsley in the Football League Cup.
On 1 March 2013, he joined FC Halifax Town on loan,[6] making his debut for the club in the following day's 5–0 Football Conference North home victory over Worcester City.[7] He was released by Rochdale at the end of his contract[8] and on 30 June 2013, FC Halifax Town announced that Pearson had signed a two-year contract to join the club on a permanent basis.[9]
