Matthew Shell is a music producer and audio engineer. Shell is the founder and CEO of publishing house and record label MTS Music. Based in Washington DC, his production style spans the genres of jazz, pop, rock, RnB and soul. Also known as MTS, Shell writes and produces music released as solo productions under his own name, as well as for other bands and solo artists.

Early life

Matthew was born to Zimbabwean mother and an American father. He was born and raised at Washington DC.

Career

In the year 2008, Shell worked on the audio production for Marcus Johnson release FLO (For the Love of Chill) which reached #11 on the Billboard Top Jazz Chart.[1]

Shell has been credited as the engineer on O.A.R.’s 2010 release Rain or Shine[2] that received recognition across a wide range of Billboard charts.[3] The album peaked at #5 on the Independent Albums Chart, #10 on the Top Rock Album Chart, #7 on the Alternative Album Chart, #49 on the Billboard 200, #30 on the Alternative Songs Chart (for the song Love And Memories), #19 on the Adult Alternative Songs Chart (for the song This Town) as well as #17 for 2 songs on the Adult Pop Songs Chart (for the songs This Town and Love And Memories)

In 2011, his work on Grammy Nominee Carolyn Malachi’s Beautiful Dreamer was featured on FOX 5 DC Morning News.[4]

Shell’s career as a Recording Artist gained prominence in 2012 when Freedom,[5][6] his collaboration with Trey Eley was launched by the Recording Academy via a Worldwide Exclusive First Listen at GRAMMY.com in 2012.[7] The album was also featured as one of Generation Bass’ Top Albums for 2012.[8]

In 2013, he collaborated with Arun Shenoy on Genesis,[9] a jazz instrumental single that went on to be the lead song on the full length album, Victorious (Matthew Shell Presents), released later in the year.

In 2014, Shell released a single My Baby in association with DJ Flexx. The song featuring the vocal talents of IhsAn Bilal, Honore’ & Don Juan was a song Shell co-wrote and produced for his wife, Terra.[10]

As a music producer, Shell has produced for several other artists including Sydni Alexander, Kenny McNeil, D2D, Kolten Perine, Greg Adams, and Paul Jackson Jr., Matthew has also engineered & mixed for Free, Jeff Lorber, Marcus Mitchell, and Gerald Albright, among others
