Matose (abbr. Matr, on lists S) is the lowest rank of enlisted men in the German Navy.[1] It is grouped as OR1[2]) in NATO, and might be comparable to Seaman (lowest level) in the United States Navy / U.S. Coast Guard, as well as to Seaman in the British Royal Navy and other anglophone naval forces.[3] It is grade A3 in the pay rules of the Federal Ministry of Defence.
In navy context NCOs of this rank were formally addressed as Herr/ Frau Matrose also informally / short Matrose.
The sequence of ranks (top-down approach) in that particular group is as follows:
- OR-4a: Oberstabsgefreiter
- OR-4b: Stabsgefreiter
- OR-3a: Hauptgefreiter
- OR-3b: Obergefreiter
- OR-2: Gefreiter
- OR-1: Matrose / Soldat
- Remark
The abbreviation "OR" stands for "Other Ranks / fr: sous-officiers et militaires du rang / ru:другие ранги, кроме офицероф"!
