Mathieu Fonteyn (born February 14, 1985 in Leuven) is a Belgian swimmer who specializes in freestyle and butterfly events.[2][1] He competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, where he narrowly missed the semi-finals by just six hundredths of a second in the men's 200 m butterfly, which put him into nineteenth place. Additionally, Fonteyn was able to set a Belgian record for his event.
Fonteyn also competed for the men's 4×200 m freestyle relay at the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China, along with his teammates Dieter Dekoninck, Pieter Timmers, and Glenn Surgeloose. Although he and his teammates failed to advance into the finals, with a time of 7:17.39, they were able to perform successfully in their respective event, by breaking a national record.[3]
