Mateo Frazier (born June 15, 1977) is an American Writer, Director, Producer, and media activist. He is best known for Co-Writing and Directing the 2013 Lionsgate film Blaze You Out[1] and producing the 2014 Sundance film Drunktowns Finest.[2]

Early life

Frazier was born in Oklahoma, USA. Where his parents were attending college. Soon after he returned to Colorado and New Mexico where he spent his childhood.

Career

Mateo’s passion for film began in the late 1980s. Growing up in Southern Colorado and Northern New Mexico during this time exposed him to a range of cultural experiences that influenced his art and world view. These experiences also nurtured his desire to create and tell stories that inspired the human spirit. Post High School, he attended the University of Nevada Las Vegas earning an interdisciplinary B.A. in Social Science and Fine Arts, after which he returned to Northern New Mexico to work with various community development and arts organizations. In 2007, he returned to graduate school at The New School in New York City and earned an M.A. in Media Studies. Since 2005, Mateo has worked in various capacities on over 20 shorts and 4 feature films. In 2012, Mateo co-wrote and co-directed the Award Winning feature thriller, BLAZE YOU OUT released by Lionsgate/Grindstone in July 2013. Also in the summer of 2013, he produced DRUNKTOWN’S FINEST with producing partner Chad Burris, and Executive Producer Robert Redford, to premier at Sundance Film Festival in 2014. Mateo is currently attached to direct WILD SALVATION in the summer of 2014 with Producers Chad Burris and Mark Adair-Rios. He left teaching full-time in 2012 but continues to teach screenwriting at Northern New Mexico College, and Chicano Film as Literature at the University of New Mexico.
