Master of Science in Bioinformatics
A Master of Science in Bioinformatics (abbreviated MSBI) is a type of postgraduate academic master's degree offered in a number of countries. The Master of Science in Bioinformatics degree builds on a background in biology and computing. Students learn how to develop software tools for the storage and manipulation of biological data. Graduates typically work in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries or in biomedical research. The career prospects are excellent.[1]
The degree typically includes coursework in biological databases, bioinformatics algorithms, machine learning and data mining, statistical methods, and computational systems biology, but the core curriculum might depend on the school and be combined with other degrees and specializations, including
- Master of Science in Bioinformatics
- Master of Science in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology
- Master of Science in Biomedical Informatics
- Master of Professional Science in Bioinformatics
Universities
As of 2014, 39 Universities across 23 states in US offered MS degree programs in BioInformatics.[2]
MS in Bioinformatics programs include Georgia Tech, IUPUI, among others.
