In the same episode, the judges cut that number down to 18 contestants.[2] The season concluded on September 10, 2012 with the first blind contestant Christine Ha winning the MasterChef title.[3] Runner-up Josh Marks committed suicide on October 12, 2013, at the age of 26.[4] He had been diagnosed with schizophrenia the day before his death, and had already been suffering from bipolar disorder.[5]
