Mary Calvi is an American television journalist and First Lady of the City of Yonkers, N.Y.

Early life and education

Calvi graduated magna cum laude with a degree in broadcast journalism from the S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University , in June 1989, a private university located in Syracuse, New York.

Career

Calvi began her career at a New York radio station as a news anchor and reporter.

She then served as news anchor and assistant news director for the News 12 Networks in Westchester, which operates seven regional cable-television news channels in the New York metropolitan area.

In March 2002, Calvi joined WCBS — a local broadcast-television station located in New York City, New York, and the flagship station of the CBS broadcast-television network — where she most recently has served as a newsreader and correspondent.

Awards

Calvi is the recipient of six Emmy Awards,[1] including for her breaking-news reportage of the "Miracle on the Hudson", the 2009 emergency landing of US Airways Flight 1549. She has also received ten Emmy Award nominations in the "breaking news" and "special reports" categories.

Appearance in popular culture

The HBO documentary film Indian Point: Imagining the Unimaginable (2004), directed by Rory Kennedy, features several video clips of Calvi on News 12 Westchester.

Mary is extremely popular on the Internet with thousands of images and videos, most highlighting her physical attributes. John Elliott, the weatherman on her newscast once said that if you are unemployed, just Google Mary Calvi - it's a full-time job.

Personal life

While in high school, Mary was chosen as "Miss Columbus" for the Yonkers Columbus Day Parade. Calvi has three children with her husband, Mike Spano, elected mayor of Yonkers NY in 2011. They reside in Yonkers, New York, a city adjacent to New York City.[2]
