Marvelous USA, Inc., formerly XSEED JKS, Inc. (doing business as XSEED Games), an American subsidiary of the Japanese Marvelous group, is a video game publishing, localization, and distribution company founded by former members of Square Enix USA. Their goal is to bring high-quality interactive entertainment to the North American market. They provide sales services for video games and related materials, as well as marketing support services mainly for Japanese corporations looking to market general consumer goods on the North American market.

History

On April 15, 2007, AQ Interactive, Inc. announced the acquisition of XSEED Games, with share transfer before June 2007.[1] The deal was signed on April 24, 2007, and the share transfer was completed on June 26, 2007.[2] On April 9, 2008, XSEED Games announced that they would be joining forces with Marvelous Entertainment (MMV) to co-publish their games in North America.[3][4][5] At E3 2008, MMV USA and XSEED Games distinguished the games that would be co-published under the agreement and the games that XSEED will publish separately.[6]

On April 1, 2009, AQ Interactive, Inc. announced increasing its stake of XSEED Games from 55.0% (486636 shares) to 90.0% (766859 shares) on the day of announcement.[7] On April 14, 2010, XSEED Games announced its partnership with Japanese developer Nihon Falcom over localizing and publishing Ys SEVEN, Ys: The Oath in Felghana, Ys I & II Chronicles, and The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky trilogy for the PlayStation Portable in North America.[8][9]

On March 13, 2012, XSEED Games announced that the publication of Ys: The Oath in Felghana and Ys Origin on Steam digital distribution platform.[10] On March, 31 2013, Index Digital Media, Inc.'s Atlus Online Division online business unit was purchased by Marvelous AQL and transferred to XSEED.[11] On April 6, 2013, XSEED Games announced its renaming of to Marvelous USA, Inc.[12][13] The XSEED Games brand will continue to be used for console, handheld and PC video games, while mobile and online social games will be released under the Marvelous Online brand.[14][15]
