Marv Tuttle
Marv Tuttle (Born December 17, 1954) is a longtime supporter and a 30-year veteran if the financial planning profession, serving most recently as the CEO of the Financial Planning Association, and is a Certified Association Executive (CAE).
Biography
Born Marvin W. Tuttle, Jr., and known as "Marv" professionally, graduated from Drake University with a degree in journalism, and in 1996 earned the Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation from the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE).
Tuttle first began his involvement with the financial planning profession in October 1983 as the Director of Communications in Denver, Colorado, for the Institute of Certified Financial Planners (ICFP), one of the predecessor organizations to the Financial Planning Association. By 1994, he had become the Associate Executive Director of the ICFP, in addition to serving as the publisher/editor of the Journal of Financial Planning, and succeeded Janet McCallen into the role of Executive Director of the FPA in January 2004.[1] Tuttle retired from his role as Executive Director of the FPA in October, 2012, and was succeeded by Associate Executive Director Lauren Schadle.[2]
Serving financial planning
Beyond his work for the Institute of Certified Financial Planners and the Financial Planning Association, Tuttle has been active in numerous ways supporting financial planning. He helped establish the FPA's National Financial Planning Support Center in 2001 after 9/11, and serves on the national board of directors for the National Jump Start Coalition. He has also served on the Academy of Financial Services national board; the Advisory Panel on Medicare Education, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; and is a past president of the Colorado Society of Association Executives.[1]
Tuttle was also instrumental in supporting the development of the Financial Planning Archives with Texas Tech University,[3] and wrote the foreword to the seminal book on the profession, "The History of Financial Planning: The Transformation of Financial Services" by E. Denby Brandon and H. Oliver Welch.[4]
Accolades
In 1996, the Journal of Financial Planning, under Tuttle’s guidance, was recognized as the Most Improved Magazine/Journal by ASAE for large associations in the United States.[1]
