the Lüneburg Heath.
The Martyrs of Ebsdorf are a group of Catholic martyrs killed in the winter of 880AD at the Battle of Luneberg Heath near Ebsdorf, Saxony.[1] Their Feast day is February 2.
The Martyrs consisted of four bishops, eleven noblemen, and numerous unknown foot soldiers. Known members include Bruno of Saxony,[2] [3] Saints Marquard of Hildesheim and Theodoric of Ninden.[4] [1]
They were slain, while serving in the army of King Louis III of France, by Norsemen,[5] of the Great Heathen Army who had recently been repelled from England at the Battle of Edington.
