Life
Born Marta Renucci in a northern Corsica rich family in 1904, she was elected as the first Miss Corsica.[1] She was the first woman in Corsica to work as a journalist and she was a successful correspondent of the "Corse matin" newspaper.
Marta married in 1928 colonel Simon Petru Cristofini and followed his ideals of unification of Corsica to the Kingdom of Italy.
She actively collaborated with Italian authorities during their occupation of Corsica from November 1942 to September 1943.
As a consequence, Marta Renucci Cristofini was sentenced in 1946 to 15 years of jail in Algiers for supporting irredentism and for collaborating with Italian fascism, but served only a reduced sentence.
