Marko Daňo (born November 30, 1994) is a Slovak ice hockey player. He is currently playing for the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League (NHL) 27th overall in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and made his NHL debut in 2014. Prior to that Daňo had played for HC Slovan Bratislava of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) for two seasons. His father, Jozef Daňo, was also an ice hockey player, and played for the Slovak national team at the 1994 and 1998 Winter Olympics.
Playing Career
Daňo was selected by the Blue Jackets in the first round (27th overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. He was born in Eisenstadt, Austria, but grew up in Trenčín, Slovakia.[1] Following the completion of his second Kontinental Hockey League season in 2013–14, with HC Slovan Bratislava, Daňo signed an entry-level contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets on March 14, 2014.[2] He scored his first NHL goal on October 11, 2014 in the game against New York Rangers.[3][4]
At the beginning of 2014-15 Daňo played 8 games in the first team, before being sent back to AHL.[5] In February he was recalled back to the first team, where he played for the rest of regular season.[6]
International play
Daňo participated at the 2012 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships as a member of the Slovakia men's national junior ice hockey team, and also at the 2013 IIHF World Championship as a member of the Slovakia men's national ice hockey team.[7]
