Markham is a small village in the South Wales Valleys in Caerphilly County Borough, close to Blackwood. Built as a planned garden village, it grew out of the need to employ Markham Colliery. Today it is a district of the community of Argoed.[1]

At the heart of the village is an active congregational chapel; it is the only place of worship in the village and will soon be celebrating its centenary.

The village's primary school, Markham Primary School, is a feeder school for Pontllanfraith Comprehensive School and Blackwood Comprehensive School. Markham Primary was previously an all-ages school, where pupils started school at 5 years of age and continued until 15. Pupils took the old 11 plus exam for entry to grammar school or the entry exam for technical school at 12 or 13 years of age.

Markham RFC currently play in the WRU Swalec League Five South East. Markham RFC have won the Cyrus Davies Cup three times. They have also been semi-finalists of the Worthington District's Cup three times.
