Mark Toro

Mark Toro is an American commercial real estate developer, retail operator, and social media advocate located in Atlanta, Georgia and is managing partner of North American Properties.[1][2] He is also active in driving walkability and re-urbanization in US cities.[3]

Biography

Toro was born on April 19, 1958 in New Hyde Park, NY, USA. He attended Rutgers University. He is married to Nancy Toro, and the couple has two children.[4]

Career

In 1996, Toro founded the Atlanta office of North American Properties, Ltd. (“NAP”) where he currently serves as Managing Partner and Chairman of the Board.[5] Current projects include Atlantic Station, Avalon (Alpharetta, Georgia), and ParkCentral in Nashville. [6]

Prior to joining NAP, he served as managing director for Faison & Associates and vice president of development at Cousins Properties.[7]

NAP is a privately held, multi-regional real estate operating company that has acquired, developed and managed more than $4 billion of retail, multifamily, mixed use and office properties across the United States.[8]

Toro has led the acquisition, development and redevelopment of more than 20 million square feet. He is most well known for leading the turnaround of Atlantic Station[9][10] and the development of Avalon.[11]

Toro is active in the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), and serves on the Midtown Alliance Board (Executive Committee) [12] and Urban Land Institute.[13]

On Sept. 3, 2014, Toro announced that the official grand opening of Avalon will be held Oct. 30, 2014, in Alpharetta, Georgia.[14]

Community Activities

Mark Toro serves as the development partner of City of Refuge Atlanta, helping to advance the organization’s mission to provide a “one-stop-shop” for those in crisis in Atlanta’s most challenged neighborhoods. [15]

He is a frequent public speaker, discussing topics such as social media (MOCIAL), re-urbanization (NAREE) and the Atlanta commercial real estate market (BISNOW State of the Market). [16]
