Mark James Halstead (born 17 September 1990) is an English footballer who currently plays for Shrewsbury Town as a goalkeeper.

Career

Blackpool

Born in Blackpool, Halstead is a product of the Blackpool Centre of Excellence and Youth Department, Halstead signed his first professional contract with the club in 2009.[2]

On 21 August 2010, he was an unused substitute in the Tangerines‍ '​ 6–0 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates stadium in the club's second game of their debut season in the Premier League.[3] Three days later, he made his first-team debut in the second round of the 2010–11 League Cup, against MK Dons at Stadium MK.[4] Seven months later, on 7 March 2011, Halstead made his League debut for Blackpool, as a substitute for Richard Kingson in a 3–1 defeat to Chelsea at Bloomfield Road. The score was 3–0 when he came on in the 66th minute.[5]

Halstead made his first League start for Blackpool on 9 February 2013, in a 2–1 victory over Millwall at Bloomfield Road.

Loans to Burscough and Hyde

On 18 August 2009 he was loaned out to Northern Premier League Premier Division side Burscough, along with fellow Blackpool player Danny Mitchley. He made his debut the same day in a 2–0 home win over Hucknall Town.[6]

He spent the latter part of the 2009–10 season on loan at Conference North side Hyde United.[2] He made his debut for The Tigers on 9 March 2010, in a 2–1 defeat to Gainsborough Trinity.[7] He made a total of 8 appearances for Hyde.[8]

Loans to Barrow and Kettering Town

On 13 November 2010, Halstead signed on an emergency loan for Conference National side Barrow to replace injured goalkeeper Clark Masters. He made his debut the same day, in a 2–0 home win over AFC Wimbledon.[9] He played only one game before an injury to Matthew Gilks saw him recalled to Blackpool.[10]

On 18 January 2011, Halstead signed on loan for Kettering Town for a month,[11] but he was recalled after an injury to Paul Rachubka left Blackpool with only one fit goalkeeper in Richard Kingson.[12] He made his Premier League debut as a substitute in Blackpool's defeat to Chelsea at Bloomfield Road.

He joined Stockport County on loan in early November and made four appearances for the club before being recalled by Blackpool in late December[13]

Shrewsbury Town

Following his release from Blackpool, Halstead joined Shrewsbury Town in League Two on a free transfer on 5 June 2014.[14] He made his debut as a substitute in a first-round FA Cup tie away at Walsall on 8 November.[15]
