Mark Chung (born June 3, 1957, in Leeds, England[1]) is a German musician and music publisher, probably best known for his work as the bass guitarist of the German band Einstürzende Neubauten.
Biography
From 1981 to 1994, Chung was a member of the German post-punk band Abwärts from Hamburg; he can be heard on their greatest hit "Computerstaat".[2][3]
In the early 1980s, he joined Einstürzende Neubauten as their bass guitar player and financial director. After the recordings for the album Faustmusik in the mid-1990s he left the band and made a career in the music industry.
Chung formed a partnership with Stevo and started a UK publishing house called Dimehart Ltd t/a Freibank Music Publishing in 1984, primarily for controlling and administering the copyrights of Einstürzende Neubauten, but Freibank also offered this service to other musicians and steadily grew.[4] In 1996, Chung moved to London, where he continued his work with Dimehart Ltd t/a Freibank and also became senior vice-president of Sony Music International.[4] After 9 years with Sony Music, he moved back to Germany and now directs the Freibank office in Berlin. In 2006, Chung was elected chairman of the German association of independent music companies (Verband unabhängiger Musikunternehmen - VUT) and he also sits on the board of the public-private partnership Initiative Musik.
He is married and has two sons and a daughter.
