Mark Bunn (born 24 October 1970) is a former Australian rules footballer, a natural-health coach specialising in ayurvedic medicine and the author of Ancient Wisdom for Modern Health.
Career
In his football days, Bunn was recruited from East Doncaster, Victoria, and captained the Fitzroy U19s before playing seniors for the Fitzroy Football Club between 1990 and 1992. He made 30 appearances, coming runner-up to Scott Clayton in the 1990 Best and Fairest (his debut season) after playing just 17 games. After two further injury-affected seasons, he was drafted by the Hawthorn Football Club in 1993. He played 23 senior games, including one final, and won another two reserve Best and Fairests (he won one at Fitzroy also). He mainly played through the midfield and as a backman.
Bunn has completed an honours degree in Exercise Physiology and formal training in Maharishi Ayurveda.[2]
Bunn considers the latest science concerning the world's healthiest and longest-living people. In 2010, Bunn published his first book, Ancient Wisdom for Modern Health—Book One: The Essential Wisdoms—"the simple, timeless secrets of health and happiness". It became a best-seller in Australia, was taken up and published by Macmillan in five countries of the Indian sub-continent, and was released in the USA and Europe. Bunn donates ten percent of the profit from the 2013 edition of the book to the David Lynch Foundation.[3] He plans to release two more books as part of an "Ancient Wisdom for Modern Health" series.
Currently Bunn is a natural health coach to business people and a guest speaker. He has presented in a number of countries and increasingly in the USA. His topics cover ayurveda, natural health, work-life balance, personal performance and motivation.
Personal life
Bunn was married to Karen (formerly Channell) until she passed away[4] in January 2014 and currently lives in Sydney.[5] He learned Transcendental Meditation aged 19.[6]
