Mark Bircher

Mark Bircher is a retired Marine Corps Reserve brigadier general, commercial pilot (777s), lawyer, scholar, and former Blue Angel pilot.[1] He was a Republican Party candidate in Florida's 13th congressional district special election, 2014.[2][3] He came in third to winner David Jolly and state Representative Kathleen Peters in the January 14, 2014 Republican primary.[2] Alex Sink is running for the Democratic Party. The general election to fill C.W. Bill Young's seat is March 11, 2014.

Bircher graduated from the Naval Academy. He became fighter pilot and flew the A-4 Skyhawk and F/A-18 Hornet. He was awarded the Bronze Star.[4] He flew with the Blue Angles for three years. He deployed to Iraq. In 2009 he retired from the Marine Corps Reserves as a Brigadier General.[2]

Bircher ran as a conservative Tea Party candidate in the Republican primary in the 2014 special election for Florida's 13th congressional district. Endorsed by former Congressman Allen West, Bircher came last with 24% of the vote, behind State Representative Kathleen Peters (29%) and lobbyist David Jolly (45%).
