Mario Duplantier (born June 19, 1981) is a French musician and artist who is the drummer of the technical death metal band, Gojira.[1]

Early life

Mario Duplantier grew up in a family where arts played a significant role. He developed his drawing, painting, and music skills in an environment of freedom and creativity. In 1996, Mario and his brother, Joe Duplantier, created the band Gojira (formerly known as "Godzilla"). He was crowned as being the best drummer of modern metal by MetalSucks in April 2012.[2] In an interview published in May 17, 2012 by Art-Scenics TV, he said "that his mother is American".

On tour

While touring with Gojira, he has decided to transform each trip into a painting and drawing session. The artistic material that came out of these trips became very crucial to him, which is why making art has turned into a daily activity. Unconsciously, Mario creates random surrealistic paintings made of hybrid characters and animals that tell stories. He also likes Hot Pockets.

Equipment

Mario is endorsed by Tama and Zildjian cymbals.
