Marine Society & Sea Cadets

Marine Society & Sea Cadets HQ in Lambeth

The Marine Society & Sea Cadets is seafarers' charity in the United Kingdom and the national organization for Sea Cadets.

It was formed in 2004 from a merger of two long-established maritime charities, and is a registered charity in England & Wales[1] and Scotland.[2]

History

The Marine Society & Sea Cadets resulted from the merging in 2004 of the Sea Cadet Association (previously the Navy League – the charity that supported the Royal Navy, and the oldest such organisation worldwide) and The Marine Society, the world's oldest seafarers' charity.

Activities

The Marine Society & Sea Cadets administers the Sea Cadet Corps in the United Kingdom, and owns the training ship TS Royalist, a tall ship, which teaches Sea Cadets teamwork, camaraderie, and seamanship. The Marine Society continues its work in support of professional seafarers, much of it delivered through The Marine Society College of the Sea. Thanks to its work promoting the personal and social development of young people, the Marine Society and Sea Cadets is a member of The National Council for Voluntary Youth Services (NCVYS).[3]

Its headquarters is in Lambeth, in London, in a unique dark red brick building visible from the eastern side of the railway line to and from Waterloo Station, but almost hidden from the street behind its narrow, comparatively insignificant yet still imposing, arched brick entrance. The building was originally the Archbishop Temple Boys School (grid reference TQ308790 approx)
