During her time in office, the county has built several major capital projects, including the new Franklin County Courthouse. The new courthouse has been recognized for its design layout[6] and LEED Gold certification.[7] Other major projects include the award-winning Huntington Park and a state-of-the-art animal shelter.

Marilyn believes that obtaining and maintaining a good job with fair pay and benefits is the best way to escape and prevent poverty, and that all residents of Franklin County should have the opportunity to work and earn a living wage on which to support themselves and their families. She consistently supports policies that encourage and incentivize economic development which lead to job creation and retention, and to filling those jobs with Franklin County residents.

Commissioner Brown has worked closely with the County's Department of Economic Development, County and Township planning boards, and business organizations such as chambers of commerce, the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC), and others to create new jobs and retain existing jobs in Franklin County. Marilyn supports initiatives such as developing business around the Intermodal at the Rickenbacker Inland Port,[8] investing in new technologies at the TechColumbus incubators, providing microloans to entrepreneurs, and finding innovative energy solutions.

Marilyn is also fully committed to the quality, and equality, of life for all Franklin County residents. She is active as a leader in the movements for GLBT and marriage equality,[9] for women's reproductive and educational freedoms, for the reintegration into society's fabric for ex-offenders,[10] for protection of workers’ safety and right to organize, for an ongoing commitment to the care, safety, and education of Franklin County's youngest residents.
