Marian T. Ryan is the elected District Attorney (DA) of Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States.
Early Life and Education
Marian Ryan was born and raised in Somerville, MA. After graduating summa cum laude from Emmanuel College in Boston, Marian went on to Boston College Law School. After graduating cum laude from Boston College, she began her decades-long career in the Middlesex DA's Office. She served in multiple leadership positions, including Chief of the Domestic Violence Unit, and later, Chief of the Elder and Disabled Unit.
In 1980, Marian was a victim of a brutal armed assault which left her injured and her companion, a fellow prosecutor, dead.
District Attorney
In 2013, while Marian was serving as the General Counsel of the Middlesex DA's Office, she was appointed to the position of District Attorney by Governor Deval Patrick. In 2014, she faced a Democratic primary challenge from the Middlesex County Clerk of Courts Michael A. Sullivan. After winning the primary election, Ryan faced no Republican opponent. [1]
