Marian N. McLawhorn

Marian Nelson McLawhorn is a Democratic member of the North Carolina General Assembly representing the state's ninth House district since 1999, including constituents in Pitt County. A resident of Grifton, North Carolina, McLawhorn is currently serving in her sixth term in the state House,[1] where she holds the position of Democratic Whip.

She was first elected in 1998, defeating Republican incumbent Henry Aldridge.[2] She was re-elected after defeating Republican candidate Wayne Holloman in the November 2000 election,[2] Judy Eagle in the November 2002 election,[3] Tony Moore in November 2006,[4] Ginny Cooper in the November 2008 election,[5] and Stan Larson in the November 2010 election.[6]

Prior to her service as a State Representative McLawhorn served as Mayor for the town of Grifton. She is a former librarian. Her key issue is education.
